Maine Wisdom InGathering 2020 with Cynthia Bourgeault, Matthew Wright
Please note: Event has been cancelled.
Yesterday the Governor of Maine extended to May 15 her previous Executive Order prohibiting all rental lodging, all public gatherings of more than 10 people, and requiring a 14-day self-quarantine for all visitors entering the state. With this development, and with deep regret, we are announcing that the 2020 InGathering cannot go forward, even in the scaled-back version we had hoped might be possible. Although it is way too early to make any decisions now, it is not too early to begin thinking about a future InGathering—perhaps 2021 around our traditional time slot of early June.
Some of you have already let us know that you would not be attending, while others have been waiting for more clarity to emerge. Whichever is your situation, Northeast Wisdom is making available full refunds of all advance deposits—both for registration and for managed housing. As an organization Northeast Wisdom has entered into contracts and made deposits for various facilities in Stonington, which under normal circumstances could not be cancelled and would be non-refundable. It is unclear at this stage what will be the resolution with respect to these matters.
Those of you who choose to do so may leave part or all of your advance deposits with Northeast Wisdom as a tax-deductible contribution to help with this contingency if needed, or if we end up being released from our contractual obligations, as a general donation to our ongoing work in support of the Wisdom community. This suggestion is an option only if your resources easily permit, and you have an inclination to help defray these potential costs.
To request a full refund or partial refund please send an email with your information to us at InGathering2020@gmail.com, as soon as you can, but not later than June 15, when we will be finalizing the refund process. To facilitate the process please put REFUND in the subject line. If your payment was made online through our PayPal account, your refund will be made by credit to the account through which you paid. If you paid by check your refund will be made by check. You need to tell us to whom to write the check and include your mailing address.
As a personal note from the two of us, we want to let you know how very special it has been to serve our Wisdom Community as InGathering coordinators over the last several months. We cherish the interactions and opportunities we have had to get to know so many of you. We hope our paths will cross again, and in the meantime, we are keeping each of you in our hearts and prayers during these unsettling times. We are praying that all of our wisdom practices manifest much fruit.
Peace, Blessings, and Love to All,
Mary Ellen Jernigan and Eileen Clark
Overview. The 2020 InGathering program will begin on Saturday evening, May 30 and conclude on Friday, June 5, with our “Adventure Day.” While we strongly encourage participants to come for the entire week, we can accommodate a limited number of flexible arrangements for those with weekday or weekend commitments. The first session will be on Saturday evening in the Stonington Town Hall. On Sunday there will be a full day of activities including a special celebration of Pentecost. On Monday and continuing through Thursday we will settle into our regular Wisdom rhythms: morning and afternoon teachings, prayer, chant, conscious work, and a simple lunch together in the Odd Fellows Hall just across the street from the Town Hall. Evenings will have time for making connections and fellowship as well as Paulette Meier’s Quaker Chant Concert and Doug Hertler’s Thomas Merton play.
Cost: The program fee is $175 per individual and $225 per family unit, no matter its size. This fee covers our basic operational expenses and lunches on Monday through Thursday, which we will prepare as part of our practical work together. The basic fee applies to all participants, regardless of the number of days in attendance. In addition, you will have your accommodation costs in a variety of price ranges, transportation expenses, breakfast and dinner on your own, and whatever extra you want to plan for tourist adventures.
Registration Wait List. The event is now CANCELLED. Do not send any money at this time. If a space opens up, we will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. If we notify you of an opening prior to April 30, we will send you a registration link; a $75 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your space. After April 30 the full program fee is due.
Accommodations. Stonington is a picturesque Maine fishing village with a variety of motel and rental housing options at a range of prices. You can either book your own accommodations or apply for a spot in one of our limited Northeast Wisdom booked houses. If you are booking your own, we recommend that you work with our local partners in Stonington at the Island Agency: http://www.islandrentalsmaine.com, or telephone the office at (207) 367-2828. Christina Carter at the Island Agency has worked to help find accommodations for our previous InGathering participants and knows the various possibilities well. Other internet-based agencies that are also reliable and experienced include http://www.vacationrentals.com and www.rentalsmaine.com, which is locally based in Blue Hill and can also be reached by phone at (207) 354-5444. If you have booked a house and have a room to spare and are looking to connect up with other InGathering participants who might like to join you, please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Northeast Wisdom Managed Housing. Northeast Wisdom has rented three large houses in Stonington, where we are able to provide accommodations for twenty-five to thirty people depending on sleeping configurations: Harbor View (21 Seabreeze Ave), Harbor Heights (19 Seabreeze Ave), and Sea Cake (15 Seabreeze Ave). The cost of a room in these houses ranges from $400 to $675 for the entire week. If a room is shared with another person (whether by sharing a double bed or two people with twin beds) the price per person will be more modest. Each of these houses has a kitchen for meal preparation. After you have registered for the InGathering, we will work with you to find the optimal configuration for your requirements and budget. If this option appeals to you, please act quickly to secure a room in one of these houses, by contacting us at email@example.com. Include your name, a phone # and any helpful details about the accommodations. If needs be, we will look into renting additional space, but at the moment we cannot guarantee Northeast Wisdom sponsored housing beyond these already booked properties.
Payment: Since our contracts require us to pay in advance for these houses, we are asking for a non-refundable deposit of $100 to hold a room in one of these houses with non-refundable full payment due by April 30. This will give us the opportunity to try to find another person to use the room we are holding for you if your need to cancel. If we are able to reassign a cancelled room, we will refund all of the room payments you have made. After you have made tentative arrangements with us, we will send you the link for how to pay online or by mail.
Contact. Questions about the InGathering may be sent to the event managers Eileen Clark and Mary Ellen Jernigan at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like to speak to either of them by phone, use this email address to give your phone number and the best times to call you.
