Taoist Practices for Our Emergent Reality: Grounding, Embodying and Extending Our Hearts with Allen Bourque

Jun 16 - Jul 14, 2020

A Weekly Zoom Course Tuesdays 5-6:15PM
Starts June 16, 2020

Since ancient times, the foundation of Taoist practices is the unity of body, mind, spirit and, yes, heart: and, indeed, the core includes the relational. This course is designed specifically to introduce Taoist practices to Wisdom students. Since these practices touch on all aspects of our being, they can be particularly helpful during this time of so much uncertainty.

During this 5-week online course, we will learn practices that:

  • calm and strengthen our nervous systems to assist in diminishing the pull to hyperarousal (or depression), and in drawing us toward greater availability to Spirit.
  • deepen breathing to strengthen our lungs and immune systems.
  • increase awareness through practices to integrate our inner and outer experience.
  • are easily incorporated into daily life and can have strong and clear effects when done regularly.

Classes will include moving practices, meditation practices and dialog.

We will meet for one hour a week via Zoom for 5 weeks.  By the end of the course, you will have sufficient familiarity with the practices to continue on your own.

No previous tai chi or qigong experience is required. An intention to practice at least 10 minutes a day (preferably 20) for the duration of the course will make your participation most beneficial. The course will be interactive and is limited to 8 participants.

Allen Bourque is a long time Centering Prayer practitioner. He has been studying tai chi and other Taoist practices for nearly 30 years, and with Cynthia Bourgeault since 2013.  He’s been studying the intersection of Taoism and Wisdom Christianity for several years and is now delving into the Gurdjieff exercises from Joseph Azize’s new book Gurdjieff: Mysticism, Contemplation & Exercises.
