Wisdom Christianity: Panikkar, Teilhard, and Thomas with Matthew Wright
NOTE: THIS RETREAT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR NEXT YEAR; DATE AND LOCATION TO BE ANNOUNCED.
Wisdom describes a lineage of spiritual knowledge and practice that is principally concerned with the alchemy of transformation. It is not about knowing more, but about knowing more deeply, and can be recognized by an alert, present-moment awareness and a compassionate intelligence.
Is Christianity on its death bed, or is it being transformed? This retreat will focus on three significant voices in the emergence of a renewed Wisdom Christianity for today: Raimon Panikkar, Teilhard de Chardin, and The Gospel of Thomas. We’ll pay particular attention to the ways in which traditional doctrines like the Incarnation, Trinity, and Second Coming of Christ come alive as experiential and participatory realities within an evolutionary, Wisdom framework.
Join us for a weekend of teaching, chanting, and silent meditation, while participating in the rhythms of a Benedictine monastery. Commitment to a regular contemplative practice is a prerequisite for this retreat.
The Rev. Matthew Wright is an Episcopal priest, writer, and retreat leader working to renew the Christian Wisdom tradition within a wider interspiritual framework. He serves as priest-in-charge at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Woodstock, NY, and lives with his wife alongside the brothers of Holy Cross Monastery.
